Should I get another tikka or the B.D. one or the princeton tech one? Here goes. A few points that aren't in the link that Jman listed. Princeton Tec is waterproof. So what. Tikka runs under water according to Putzl rep, just dry it out sometime. I've seen 2 out of about 15 PT's come back ("dead bulbs", read bad connection), and 1 out of 100+ Tikka that sold at our store. He didn't dry his out... AAAs suck, they are twice the price for half the battery, and they don't come in lithium. PT has adjustable angle. Screw comes loose and nice bright headlamps flops down and blinds you. Tikka - just push it up and down on your head. PT has push button switch, easy to turn on in pack maybe? At least you'll have some light left. BD? How to take a simple concept (Battery+bulb=light) and screw it up in my opinion. Why so complex? I admit to just not liking their whole headlamp line. Obviously I'm biased to the Tikka. But if you need Halogen, then get Halogen. Carry a tikka instead of a spare brick for the Zoom, and use the big gun only when you need it. Maybe put a 4.5V brick on the back of your Tikka, good for multi day routes in the Arctic winter.

OK across the top, under lid for bootpacking. but stay away from the bush. Freesole/Seam Grip the bottom seam though, or it'll wear through qiuck.
  3. So, everyone bitches about their whisperlites. What's up with that? Mine's 9 years going strong. I've got a butane rig too, but always seem to grab the MSR. And yes, I do believe they can simmer. In fact I can bake on mine. I usually reserve that trick for base camp style where your pack is too heavy anyway. You should see the looks you get at Applebee campground when you are eating pizza with Sure it has need of cleaning once in a while, but I'd rather a stove I can fix than one I can't. Let me have it, I want to know of ruined trips, flambeed tents, dead partners. Tell it all...

Can't remember the right name, Omnifuel maybe?

They were just little too narrow for me. fern told me a story about the dynafit boots. She was on a trip with someone who had a brand new pair, that basically self destructed over the course of two weeks. Another friend hates his. I'm sure some people like them.

If you don't need that, then go with the old binding, since it's lighter. Or go with the old binding and the "Rental Plate" which gives you lots of adjustability, plus the time proven reliability of the TLT4. Don't know the track record of this part though. Telemark pyrenees had them last winter, as far as I know you can't get them in NA. Light gear rules - especially when it's the most reliable system out there. Friends have had problems with the brakes though. How's this for fun: Ski pops off in bad fall, lands on binding, then pressure from the brake pops the heel piece of the binding sending the internal spring flying. Oh goodie! Let the snow fly...

  10. OK y'all, Just a few things about the Ultimate Everything. The 25 cents goes to the bolt fund, not to the store. As for the "folks" who shoveled and scrubbed - it was all cleaned and equipped by one person! Let us all give thanks to the wild child.
