  1. there was a hilarious thread around here about people getting caught taking a smash about a year ago here (it kindof degraded into dog owners musing about how their dogs like to snack on the slash). that one of that mountaineer lady in the large group with all the headlamps on her was priceless!
  2. I don't think there's any debate here about prana tops.
  3. He has definitely been involved with the ELF here in Oregon, he was interviewed on Frontline at one point. He best hope his phone number remains unlisted.
  4. LMAO!
  5. thanks for the advice, looking forward to it. weak erik? this from the new smith rock posterboy? say hi to the chicas on cinnamon slab for me this weekend
  6. Kellogg's should come out with a Hans Blix version of Trix for this occasion. It would have all different shapes of mid to long range missiles and marshmellows in the shape of anthrax spores and gas masks. I'd buy it!
  7. actually screw it I'm getting some piste pipes and hammerheads so I can land switch in my t1's and impress the hot snowboard chicas at TLine this summer by puffing tough and landing the mad inverts in the park.
  8. ugh it's been demonstrated thoroughly that the hindenberg would have burned to the ground just the same w/o hydrogen. The skin material is what burned so effectively and with length. the hydrogen was gone almost instantaneously.
  9. code red! code mother f'ing red! erik hangdogs more than DFA clones at a chain reaction beta festival. you don't want those damaged goods!
  10. I see. Can you point to the last 5 geograpical locations on the planet were the US has been employing physical violence in your name? I find that pretty important. Sorry to be a smartass, (esp when I'm not so smart)
  11. okay so I'm thinking of trying some telemarking to try something new besides at skiing. I want to use it as very light dependable gear, the way tele gear is intended (not as fake, heavy, poor-performing alpine gear, as it seems to be now) . I have acquired a friend's old leather asolo extreme pros and am wondering what boards I could reasonably consider driving with these things. I will probably get some voile 3pin cables. I have some tua mito 192's. I weigh in between 180-195 depending on the season. Am I asking too much of the leather boots? Will I fall on my face constantly and get really frustrated? Or will I adopt telemark technique with some ease from my alpine skiing endeavours? Have others made this transition? I'm looking forward to the challenge. Spray on pinheads!
  12. bah those dates and numbers are hardwired into every kid's head. who cares when the constitution was written as long as you have it within 20 years or so? I think u.s. and world geography is more important.
  13. funny story on the emmons, partner I had never seen before brought along a second tool. and a 1 piece northface fartbag. in august. it was quickly apparent who the tool was at that point! I've never seen someone sweat so much!
  14. it's like being asked to label engine parts to get your driver's license hey I'm a model citizen
  15. Here's an interesting development .
  16. If you cruise 5.13 or M8, you will be just as dead stumbling down the emmons in a whiteout because you left the bivy gear behind or you were too slow and fat, or you can't use a compass, or you don't stay put, or you just forget to keep your digits warm to zip up your coat. Seems like many volcano routes are "hard" based on their objective hazard not climbing "skill" required. Your "skill" on the volcanos is how long and far your mind will let you hang it out there and the survival/fitness you employ to do so, and knowing when it is time to run. Maybe a little luck too. There are exceptions.
  17. didn't that image itself become the subject of an internet argument here a year or two back?
  18. on mt. washington, oregon: several years ago a guy is coming down the n. ridge with a concerned look on his face. Guy: "Looks like a two-tool climb up there right now, be careful" (as he trundles a healthy amount of debris down) Us: "Wha? It's september. we've never even brought 1 axe this time of year" Guy: "it's all iced up in the notch, we turned back" (there had been a light squall that had dusted the area with snow) Guy continues down. We continue up. We had some new people with us so were concerned about the conditions. Near the summit, one of our group asks if we will need ice gear. Turns out this was after passing the area the concerned guy was babbling about without realizing it. This was in light hikers and bare hands.
  19. not a walking meth lab, but probably one of their best customers
  20. not in the wilderness but: friend puts a giant log into firepit, no kindling whatsoever. mysteriously, he keeps about 5 feet away. "matt you dowsed that log in white gas again didn't you?" "no I didn't" log erupts into giant fireball for about 10 minutes then goes out, totally unburnt.
  21. way to think positive!
