Deficits don't matter. Just ask Dick Cheney.

Of course, if these guys are going to be allowed to legally carry firearms into the National Parks it will all prove to have been worth it. What's a little loss of liberty and national defense capability when we're talking about FREEDOM. (personally, I think some folks around here have their values a little upside down)

I believe part of the drive for Wilderness Area designation stems from the fact that the Roadless Area Rule adopted by the Forest Service in 2001 has been under steady attack from the Bush Administration and many conservation groups believe that their only solid option for preserving wild lands and large areas of habitat is through Wilderness Area designation.

Crazy maybe but he's right. The Bush Administration is allowing their cronies to help themselves to the Federal treasury while bankrupting us, they've seriously crippled our National defense, squandered international prestige, destroyed the credibility of such vulnerable institutions as the Department of Justice and FEMA, and they've given Al Queda the biggest break they've ever had. You and KK may call that irrational hate but you're calling for Clinton to be jailed over an arms deal?

Do whatever you want, Porter. It wont' slow anybody down to use "past 48 hours" under "quick links" and if you think it makes the site more attractive to "serious" browsers or whatever not to have the spray threads mixed in with "past 24 hours" that's fine. For anyone who has or may become a regular visitor, I think it is the content that matters more than the navigation structure.

Sorry to spoil your day there, Halifax. I took Fairweather's bait and I shudda known better. I do think our various interpretations of the Bill of Rights are worthy of discussion, though. The right to carry guns in a National Park is certainly a topic of interest to those of us who visit the parks regularly.

Huh?

There's that reading comprehension problem again. I wrote "I THINK he has done both." I knew that I might be wrong about the second one and indicated that I wasn't sure. And I knew that if so, he'd corrected me - so now his reputation for honesty and obeying the law remains intact.
-
KK, do "people like you" think the phrase referring to the need for a well organized militia has no relevance in the 2nd amendment? Why was it placed there? What to you is a particularly twisted application of the 1st or 4th amendments? Requiring Bush and CO to comply with the law and get a rubber stamp "blanket" warrant from a FISA court?
-
I couldn't remember whether you'd made that statement about the trail park passes or not, Fairweather. NOw, about the 2nd amendment....
-
KK, you are too fast for me. Less than 30 seconds after hitting "post" I realized I should note that I was referring to Mr. F, because I couldn't remember if you had offered similar statements of your "rights" to use public lands. Sorry to offend.

or who proudly proclaims the positive benefits of using LSD on a recreational basis. What about one who proudly proclaims that he is going to ignore regulations pertaining to the use of mountain bikes in back country, or trail park passes? I think your pal Fairweather has done both. Can we talk about the 2nd amendment now or is it just bait and bash.

The hijackers were hypocrites? Hold the presses!

How is it any different whether I am calling a potential terrorist who lives in Oklahoma City and one who lives in Vancouver?
-
Wait a second. You, Fairweather, are unhappy because you think I was caustic? Back to the second and fourth amendments. How is your position here "consistent?"? Under the second amendment, any paranoiac who thinks he needs to carry a gun to protect himself is entitled to do so, but under the fourth amendment the government can eavesdrop with no warrant and no probable cause to do so?
-
You need to learn to read. The Bill of Rights says what it says, yet you want to ignore parts of it. As to our current discussion, scroll up and re-read this thread. I clearly acknowledged that you and other conservatives have no corner on the market when it comes to being inconsistent. I have not ever stated that everything I say is consistent, nor did I berate you for being inconsistent.

?

Fairweather, you need new reading glasses:
-
Neither our esteemed Mr. Fairweather nor any other Conservative has ever tried to be "consistent" around here except that, in his interpretations espoused here, he is consistent in ignoring the Constitutional language he doesn't like. Strict Constructionists? Huh? They pick and choose which freedoms matter just as much as anybody else and then they howl about "moral relativism."
-
Have you looked at the Bill of Rights lately? Or are you just listening to Limbaugh? Apparently, you wish to ignore the part about the well-regulated militia in the second amendment and the bit about the right of the people to be secure in their homes and warrants only issuing upon probable cause doesn't really matter in the fourth amendment. Consistency. Not. Archie can make a case for hunting in the Parks, but worrying about murderers or arguing the right of any citizen wacko to carry a pistol while ignoring their right to not to be searched and spied upon in their home cannot be justified on Constitutional grounds unless you are really heavily into "interpretation."

You can hike into the Monarch Icefield area from the Nusatsum Road and do without air support altogether. I think it may only be 10 miles, and maybe less, to Ape Lake.

That 3 section one looks pretty sweet in its simplicity, but there can be some utility in dividing things up a bit more than that. I drove pickup trucks for years and I tried a lot of different arrangements but the one I best preferred had long boxes on either side of the bed that were no wider than the wheel wells and ran the full length of the bed. I'd leave them in the truck unless I was moving furniture or hauling dirt or something, and they'd hold things like skis or ski poles in place, and keep grocery bags upright. I molded concrete blocks to fit in each of these side boxes, behind the wheel well, for extra winter traction but sand bags would also work. For the sleeping surface, I preferred a more complicated but more flexible set of 6 panels, front and back halves for the right and left "slots" and the middle main cavity. These rode on wooden rails so they'd slide forward and back like a drawer.
