Good for the corporate sponsors to reward PMR and the dog, although I am not so sure you should reward the dog's owner for doing what they did.

Anyone see the Ellen show? How did it go down?

Who is rewarding the dog's owner?

Just found out that some corporate sponsors gave $20,000 to Portland Mtn Rescue and $10,000 for the dog hospitalization, great to see!

You said the corporate sponsors did. $10,000 for the dog's hospitalization. Who does the money go to? I doubt velvet has a savings account to direct deposit to and I doubt that velvet is responsible for her vet bills. If payment did not go directly to the owner, then it benefits the owner because he is no longer on the hook for the $10,000 vet bill. Hence, they rewarded the dog's owner as he directly benefits from it......

Although I do find it a bit interesting that the corporate sponsors gave money t o Velvet's vet bills but nothing to Christina Redl's hospital bills. Maybe it was becasue Velvet had no choice in the matter?

The money was donated to the animal hospital, not toward's Velvet's bill.

Yes, it sucks that the vet got the money and not Christina, but this seems indicative of our approach to healthcare. Corporate sponsors donating cash so they can sell more crap (in this case, I think it's micro chips for pooches).

Sour grapes? I wouldn't wish that kind of media attention, guilt, or climbing community hatred they will face if that MLU Bill passes on anyone!

You seem like a glass half full kind of guy.

I am definitely going to try and come to it. I always try to make it for fundraisers for PMR. Plus, I 've never been to the new LL. I do not think my feelings on MLUs will be adissenting opinion with the company this event will be keeping. PMR has come out publicly against the legislation proposed for carrying MLUs. I agree that they help and feel they have a purpose, just not through Legislation.

A couple of people from the group putting this on were at the North Face Mountain Rescue Slide Show tonight. They talked about the fundraiser and passed out flyers. They said they've been receiving lots of donations from a variety of places and will have some great packages for the silent auction. They also said if anyone wants to make a donation to get in touch for them. They are looking for more items. They really want this to go well in order to raise $$$ for the rescue groups.

Velvet will be there, too. I asked because my little ones would love to meet her. It looks like it'll be a lot of fun.

BUMP

Hope to see some of you folks out Thursday night to support the rescue organizations.... The folks who've organized this have managed to get a bunch of stuff donated so the auctions should be worthwhile to check out.

Oh, and the beer's good, too.
