matt_warfield Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 For those familiar with cc.comer RuMR, Rock and Ice online has a report of Drew Ruana, age 16, of Redmond WA redpointing 5.14d in France. Next stop 5.15a and the rest of high school! Quote
wfinley Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Article here: http://www.rockandice.com/climbing-news/drew-ruana-16-sends-le-cadre-nouvelle-5-14d-in-ceuse His stick the crux yell sounds just like his dad 20+ years ago. Quote
matt_warfield Posted August 3, 2016 Author Posted August 3, 2016 (edited) I watched them climb together about 8 yrs. ago at World Wall. Drew was more interested in screwing around than climbing. Things have changed. His dad's crux yell probably hasn't changed, just maybe the grade. Edited August 3, 2016 by matt_warfield Quote
olyclimber Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 pretty awesome, i can't even fathom it really.... "In February, Drew climbed his first 5.14d when he made the first ascent of Assassin at the Aggro Gully, Smith Rock, Oregon. The route links up the cruxes of Repeat Offender (5.14b), Villain (5.14a) and White Wedding (5.14a) into what is likely the hardest climb at Smith. It has yet to be repeated." Hardest climb at the birthplace of American sport climbing. Quote
