minx Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 i had a bunch of gear stolen recently and now it's time to replace it. Among the items removed by the evil scum sucking cretons were my atlas 10 series snow shoes. I've loved these but i've seen that atlas has a snowshoe out for women. Anyone tried these? What are your favorites and why? I'm inclined to replace these w/the identical model but thought i'd see what some other's opinions are Quote
Greg_W Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Are the MSR Denalis lighter? I'd go with those if they are. Quote
erik Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 I THINK TRASK KNOWS ABOUT THE EQUINE/BOVINE SNOWSHOES.... SO HE MIGHT HAVE TAKEN A LOOK AT THE WIMMINS Quote
fern Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 did you use your old Atlas shoes lots and they stood up? I had the opportunity to put some serious abuse on some brand new Atlas shoes, full 8hr field work days in wet snow, and after 1 1/2 weeks they were starting to break and fall apart. Quote
minx Posted January 21, 2003 Author Posted January 21, 2003 I'm surprised. What model do you have? I've used mine a lot. Long days, lots of hours, deep wet nasty snow, the works. Loved those shoes but anytime i buy new gear i like to check out all the options. Quote
joshs Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 I tried Atlas and MSR models, but ended up going with Baldas. I got the Matterhorn Trek model. It's pretty light, strong, and climbs well. It downhills very well. And not too expensive, either! Quote
joshs Posted January 21, 2003 Posted January 21, 2003 Right you are, GregW--fucked indeed. Try www.baldas.com or just do a Google search for "Baldas". Quote
Nick Posted January 22, 2003 Posted January 22, 2003 I have found MSR snowshoes to give excellent footing and traction, but they are noisy and some of the super light "trail running" snowshoes by Atlas and others weigh half as much as any of the older models. Quote
