messingb Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 Headed up to Washington Pass to climb on liberty crack and clean break in end of June. Just seeing if I will need crampons that time of year? Not sure what the snow pack is like this year. Any beta would be much appreciated! Quote
dberdinka Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 (edited) There will still be snow at least along the base of the climbs and it can get surprisingly steep. For many a sharp stick will suffice. If you're not sure of your sketching-in-approach-shoes-in-snow skills (light) crampons may be advised. Edited April 21, 2014 by dberdinka Quote
num1mc Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I've seen deep snow all the way from the parking lot, and the need to use crampons in the gully in late june. I've also seen bare rock everywhere the same time of year. Quote
.chad Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 There are some nearby SNOTELs: http://www.nwrfc.noaa.gov/snow/ Quote
ivan Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 plenty of sharp sticks n' stones to help on most approaches - uglier on the descent potentially - remember how them old boys worked centuries ago by chopping steps when they needed to... Quote
