Dru Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 Looking at this peak in my Red Beckey last night. I see the SE Spire has 2 summits of almost equal height and the first ascent route goes to the W'ern of them. Does anyone know if the E'ern one is still unclimbed? If so it might be the highest unclimbed pk in Washington? Quote
Stefan Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 (edited) No. Both of them climbed. The hard Mox you speak of is on the Bulger list. About 20-30 people have climbed that thing. Oops. I reread your post. I have no idea if the spire has been climbed...... Edited December 17, 2002 by Stefan Quote
Dru Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 Yeah who would know aside from Beckey? And if it is still unclimbed I bet he will clam up too.... And that E one is the one with the unclimbed 650m east buttress out of Perry Creek.... Quote
layton Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 I've been staring at that whole area in the Red Fred for a while. Maybe (although I don't want to admit it) this would be a good bolted sport route? Quote
Dru Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 Judging by the rock quality those bolts wouldnt stay in for long. It look like there's cracks everywhere right through the thing so why drag a drill and bolts along on what is gonna be a MIMIMUM 3 day trip, probably 4 is more likely? Quote
layton Posted December 17, 2002 Posted December 17, 2002 Looked slabby and marbley to me? Your right, f'dat shite. I'm game, lets go now. Quote
Dru Posted December 17, 2002 Author Posted December 17, 2002 Marble, dat is the famous Skagit Gneiss. Dont like a handhold? Just dig until you find a nice one. Throw your discards down to your belayer. It will give him something to do, as he wont be able to catch you if you fall.... Actually I climbed some nice cracks on Redoubt avoiding the couloir on NE face. Quote
