dustinb Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 (edited) Trip: Mt. Slesse - NE Butt Date: 7/22/2013 Trip Report: Hey all, Just climbed the NE Buttress of Mt. Slesse. The pocket glacier is still there. We ran under it to get to the toe of the buttress. That seamed to exspose us to the hazard for only a couple minutes although it was a full on sprint across wet, glacial polished slabs. It got my attention. The cross over descent still looks very snowy. As we did not bring snow gear we hiked off the south side which while long was very straight forward. The road on the south side is open again and we were able able to hitch a ride down to the Chilliwack river road after hiking the 3-4k of old road. We struck out on the ride back to Riverside Campground and were forced to hike the 10k up the road. Got lucky and got another ride up the next logging road to our truck. Two cars would have made this much more mellow. Cheers Gear Notes: tree climbing gear for lower buttress Edited July 24, 2013 by dustinb Quote
dberdinka Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Good to know. I've always struggled to hitchhike out there as well. Maybe the correctional center (prison) based out there freaks people out. Quote
G-spotter Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 We drove by your truck the night before I think. Good to hear you made it through, the icefalls we saw the day before gave me no desire to do the approach until the glacier slides. Quote
ivan Posted July 27, 2013 Posted July 27, 2013 i found the key to hitch-hiking off this route was walking in the middle of the road and not moving Quote
