christophbenells Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Skiers, STAY OFF our climbing routes. this is 2013 man, shasta is no longer a climbing route, its a ski run. get with the times or get left behind. Quote
christophbenells Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 oh, and dchromey, good luck and its awesome to see someone as young as you hungry to get experience. sorry for bringing you down at the beginning of the thread, its not what i meant just the context was wrong. Quote

ARBrandon Posted May 24, 2013 Posted May 24, 2013 Hey, man. I may be able to do Shasta during July. What dates are you looking at? Quote
Dchromey Posted May 24, 2013 Author Posted May 24, 2013 Hey man I'm looking at July 6-9. I have a partner but don't let that stop you from coming on down with us man, send me a PM if you are interested in climbing shasta with us Darren Quote
Dchromey Posted August 16, 2013 Author Posted August 16, 2013 okay next year everyone! i was not able to get down there, but in may or june for next year im available for mt. shasta, either avy gulch or casaval ridge. If anyone from Washington is going down there next year, hope you wouldnt mind if i could tag along. Thanks everyone! Quote
Ptown_Climber1 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 Just saw this thread...sorry it didn't work out for you! Shasta is a beautiful, gentle, giant of a mountain. It's my favorite of the Cascades, and I've climbed most of 'em. Rainier is a great challenge, but Shasta, if you get off the Avy Gulch, isn't to be underestimated. And there are some cool glaciers on it as well....the Whitney, for one. Hotlum and Bolam as well.... I'm with you on the skiing thing....enjoy the quiet and the solitude....no rush. Hope you're able to get up there next year...I'm planning to climb Casaval Ridge in Winter or Spring, but wouldn't recommend that as your first ascent.....good luck! Quote
Dchromey Posted August 19, 2013 Author Posted August 19, 2013 i wouldnt mind doing casaval ridge or avy gulch next spring. its hard finding a partner up in washington, or i may just decide to take a train down there, we'll see. just me that would be a lot of gear id have to bring. Quote
daver Posted September 11, 2013 Posted September 11, 2013 I'm going to be around the sac/tahoe area the first half of october and I'm considering driving up to shasta and hiking the avy gulch. I wasn't planning on bringing all of my snowboard gear with me, but am I going to want crampons? Would carrying just an ice ax and hiking in trail runners be alright? Quote
Dchromey Posted November 21, 2013 Author Posted November 21, 2013 The west side in September can be done without crampons. Quote
Dchromey Posted January 24, 2014 Author Posted January 24, 2014 With all the snow that has been piling up, it will be a good time this year. Just kidding...there is no snow up there...their drought has hit mt. Shasta hard. It will likely be a scramble up this year. Or grab the last years of Shasta's glacier on the north side! http://news.yahoo.com/bare-mount-shasta-reveals-california-drought-severity-193653752.html Quote
