curtveld Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 (edited) plane leaving in 48 hrs - who's got anything to add? Yeah, you suck! I'm with Shapp, the last thing you want to do in peak RR season is head for a mega-classic, unless you want a social experience. Hiking into an obscure climb is way better - the desert hiking is cool and most climbs are pretty good. Black Dagger is a good bet. Also, Coltrane is a really nice climb way up Oak Creek. Two 5.9 slab moves off the ground, then 500 feet of clean mid-fifth slab. Edited March 28, 2013 by curtveld Quote
denalidave Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 *bump* plane leaving in 48 hrs - who's got anything to add? If you have a short day, check out Ultraman at the first pullout. Fun, old slab route, all bolts, but some like a small cam (can't recall what size)for the easier runout at the top. I really like the view from the crescent summit seat. "Rock out with yer..." Quote
Jake_Gano Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Crimson and Birdland are crowded mega-classics... for a reason. Get up early or go when it's too cold for Californians to climb (e.i. 60). Ragged Edges is good for a short day and you don't really need all the giant pro the guidebook asks for. Quote
