Colin Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 So I saw the movie, "The Deerhunter" for the first time a few days ago, and was very pleased to see some of our own in there: -Mount Baker -Mount Shuksan -Pyramid Peak -Paul Bunyan's Stump Just a little bonus to an already good movie! Quote
Dumpster_Diver Posted November 14, 2002 Posted November 14, 2002 Deer Hunter is a classic. Hurray for Veterans (late) but not all of them are baby killers. Aren't the Russian roullette scenes crazy! Quote
nolanr Posted November 17, 2002 Posted November 17, 2002 Bet you didn't know all of the above mentioned peaks were on the East Coast before you saw the movie, huh? Quote
North_by_Northwest Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 I thought those hunting scenes looked like someplace I've been before. Isn't the interior of the lodge at Mt. Hood used in The Shining? What other cascade haunts have appearred in film? Quote
ChrisT Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 No - it's the exterior of Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood that's used in the Shining. Quote
Uncle_Tricky Posted November 18, 2002 Posted November 18, 2002 The original inspiration for the hotel in The Shining was the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, Colorado. Stephen King stayed there for weeks as he was writing the book. While the movie wasn't filmed there, it's eerily similar to the hotel in the movie. It was built around the turn of the century, and is very ornate, with red carpets, fancy chandeliers, tall winding staircases, and walk-in freezers. When I was in high school, parts of the hotel were closed for renovation. We would drink heavily, and sneak around the deserted hotel in the wintertime in the middle of the night. Spooky indeed!
