Tim Donovan Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Was just up at French's (sans camera) and noticed a large bald dome on the other side of lolo pass rd, maybe 1/2 mile away, along with a mess of other rock making up the ridge. Anyone know if it is/has been climbed? I'll save some energy to go check it out next trip. Looks nice. Tim Quote
obwan Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 Google "French's Dome" - lots of info/sites. Quote
Tim Donovan Posted October 1, 2011 Author Posted October 1, 2011 Thanks, but anyone have specifics? Also, sorry to have dropped this thread in the main climbers forum, I'll dupe it in the regional request board. Quote
wayne Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Nearly all of the rocks in the woods have been climbed. Are you looking for a developed crag, or an adventure climb? You may find the latter. Quote
Tim Donovan Posted October 2, 2011 Author Posted October 2, 2011 Adventure to be sure. From the road it looks like a nice steep slab/corner with an offwidth at the top. Surely the rock is questionable and there's rusted pitons from the 80's. Quote
Lodestone Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 It's seen sporadic activity over the years but there's more development potential. One thread on the topic is probably sufficient :-) Chad Quote
rl23455 Posted October 14, 2011 Posted October 14, 2011 I went up there years ago. There was a fixed rope for development. Pretty mossy, looked like the start was the crux over a sort of roof, then steep slab to the top. Would take a lot of work to clean the moss. It's outside of Bull Run, so no access problems. Quote
