Eric K Posted September 30, 2011 Posted September 30, 2011 I just moved to Antwerp Belgium and am now eager and excited to get on some classic alpine routes. I know some of you have done some climbing in the Alps and want to know what guide book you recommend. I am mostly interested steep snow/ice and mixed climbs, but a comprehensive guide which also has the pure rock routes would be just as good. Also if any of you are currently living in Europe or plan on visiting at some point, send me a pm and we can meet up. Eric Quote
ScaredSilly Posted October 1, 2011 Posted October 1, 2011 I use the old Alpine Club books cause I am old and in the way and have yet to modernized ;-). Quote
Dane Posted October 2, 2011 Posted October 2, 2011 Two volume set by Francois Damilano, "Snow Ice and Mixed" The guide to the Mont-Blanc Range. Available in English, French and Italian I believe. Publisher is JMEditions Great books! Quote
EastCoastBastard Posted October 3, 2011 Posted October 3, 2011 Yes, those are the books to get. The other commonly used english-language guidebooks for the alps are the ones published by the Alpine Club by Lindsay Griffith. They are okay, but a bit old school in their layout and the pictures of routes are often not very detailed. Quote
