Gregory.S. Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 I am trying to choose between the 50l Direttissima (large) and the 70l South col by mountain hardware. Somebody at the outdoor store in portland told me that the 50l expanded quiet a bit and that they had used it for a lot of multi day trips with no problem. Right now I mostly go hiking / camping, however I am going to climb baker before the end of the season (hopefully). I am really just starting climbing / preparing for it. I hope to do Mt. Coldfinger Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Go with the one that will fit what you want to use it for most of the time, also BTW you can strap a TON of stuff on one of these and the old Direttisima is on sale cheap all over the place and is bigger than the new one. I bought a new scrambler and will use the great straps of the old DT to strap it on the outside if I need a whole lot of volume. Quote

Also, I usually tell people to get a smaller size as it will force you to take less. You'd be surprised what you take that you really don't need and how much stuff can be left behind! Chickenthief Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 The pack didnt come with any instructions so I had trouble attaching crampons onto these packs. Most my other packs have shock cord webbing on the back for crampons but these just have 2 horizontal straps, and i had the feeling the crampons can easily fall out. how do people attach crampons onto these packs? Coldfinger Posted October 24, 2011 Posted October 24, 2011 using those straps.... seriously. Sometimes I strap the pons onto an ice axe to keep all those points of the pack fabric entirely, and just strap the axe on as I normally would. Quote
