Jeff W
I am going to spring for a new pair of mountaineering gloves this weekend. I have narrowed my choice to either Outdoor Research Alti-Gloves or Mountain Hardwear Medusa Gloves. Would appreciate input based on experience with either of these. Also, open to suggestions of other gloves of similar quality. Thanks.
genepires
when you say mountaineering glove, what does than mean? WHat are you doing with the glove? Walking up glaciers? Leading sketchy ice gulleys? Altitude? alpine rock climbing? All are mountaineering but are different glove needs.
Jeff W
For clarification, looking for gloves that perform well at altitude and/or cold weather. Last fall the temperature dropped to 5-degrees when I topped out the DC on Rainier. My gloves were not designed for that application. Don't want to repeat this season. Alti-Gloves? Tom_Sjolseth
For that purpose I'd go with the ORs. I have a pair and they keep my hands toasty anywhere in the Cascades, even in Winter.
BigSky
I can go pretty cold with a guide style, leather palmed, mountain glove for general use. I guess it depends a lot if 5 is going to be your norm or the coldest expected temp.
genepires
for another option if you are talking about cold glacier walking, how about just a pair of windstopper gloves for a majority of the time and add a basic OR mitten setup for when things get cold. Cheaper, warmer and able to handle more variable conditions. (when dexterity is not an issue)
