powderhound Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Bailing on AK, going to the Caribbean for some sun, sand, bikini's, drinks, and sex. I want to also bring my shoes and maybe do some beach bouldering a day or two. Anybody got any beta for me? Personal experiences? Tips? Oh I will be going last week of May first week of April. Quote
JosephH Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Stainless bolts pretty can disintegrate at a remarkable rate while looking good on the outside. Anything that isn't Ti is pretty dubious given there's tons of them from the first wave of climbing a decade ago. If you know what islands you're going to be on I'd get ahold of the locals or psuedo-locals who do the bolting and find out what the current story is as it probably is on a route-by-route basis. powderhound Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 no harness....i want to just boulder on the beach Quote
Jens Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Lots of deep water soloing on various islands. A lot of limestone. It can tend to be REALLY sharp in my experience and you may encounter some wild Iguanas on some top outs. Â A heck of a lot more fun and cheaper than a Hawaii vacation! Plus the water is warmer and clearer. Â Â Quote
sprocket Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Slightly off topic but having never been to Hawaii or the any Caribbean islands what would be the recomened destinations for a week of relaxing on the beach with maybe some activities thrown in for variety? Quote
nkane Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I don't want to say that this is the only climbing in the Caribbean, but the Baths on Virgin Gorda are almost certainly the best. Beachside bouldering on giant granite formations. Hard to beat. Quote
lancegranite Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Just got back from Roatan/ Utila. Fantastic! Leave your climbing shoes at home. Bring a mask/ snorkel/ fins instead. Plenty of time to struggle up some backwoods crumbly rock when your are back home. Go enjoy some warm, 100 foot visibility water, swim with the fish. Quote
