Skull Hollow Campground ( Smith ) is closed

As Bill Coe posted in the Rock Climbing Forum and I had posted under the Climbers Board(? - I think)), Skull Hollow is closed for the winter. A friend went camping / climbing there last weekend and the gate was shut. At least 50 campers were dispersed outside of the fence.

 

I still urge people to write the Ochoco NF. The issues around human waste and sanitation ( amongst others) will become a problem for climbers and the National Forest / BLM.

What kind of lock is on there? Just wanted to know what kind of bolt cutters to bring down. Er... I mean, tell my friend to bring... or something.

Generator and a big angle grinder will get the job done, as would a small oxy/acetylene rig.

 

Conversely, you could write a letter.

Phone calls and emails got the gate open. Keep sending letters to the USFS.

Sounds like the USFS is letting the concessionaire close the site this weekend, despite all the letters which have been sent in.

 

This weekend is looking good at Smith. People should contact the USFS THIS WEEK and let them know you are heading over and want to camp at Skull Hollow THIS WEEKEND.
