Political hack promoted to run National Security

Short version: old National Security Adviser pro is gone and a partisan political hack takes his place. Good luck staying safe my country.

"Donilon lived his life from presidential campaign to campaign. The Democratic operative worked on his first Democratic National Convention at 24, and he’s been helping elect candidates ever since. He has worked for Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Joseph R. Biden. .........He was a registered lobbyist from 1999 through 2005, and his sole client was Fannie Mae."

 

While the guy leaving, General Jones:

"Jones served as the 32nd Marine Corps Commandant from July 1999 to January 2003. After leaving the post, he became the Supreme Allied Commander, Europe, and Commander of the U.S. European Command, holding the positions until December 2006. Besides combat experience in Vietnam, Jones served tours of duty during Operation Provide Comfort in northern Iraq and Turkey as well as during operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina and Macedonia."

 

Secretary Robert Gates, who has also chosen to move on, has said to Jones that Donilon would be a "disaster" as Obama's national security adviser.

I'm all for it. The less national security apparatus we have and the more neutered it is, the better I sleep at night.
