wimsey Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Well, baring a miraculous turnaround in the weather for the next 3 weeks, the Three Sisters Marathon season window never opened this year. As of late last week, the "Terrible Traverse" was still under snowfield and impassible without axe and crampons. ( If you managed a traverse this year regardless, carrying your tools all 18 miles; major props. ) Looking to burn off some pent up frustration on an alternative challenge, I gave this a try: Deschutes River at the Old Mill in Bend -> South Sister summit -> back to Bend. 52 miles cycling and 11 miles jogging, almost 8900 feet total elevation gain. I'm curious to hear form others who have done this. Drop me a note if you have or are interested. And hopefully we will have better luck next year with the traverse. -Brett Quote
rocky_joe Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 My friends just did it two weeks ago in 18hrs. took em a bit to find a trail above the snowfield with some sketchy downclimbing on the other side of it, but 5 of them managed it. the also took the NW ridge on S. Sister. Quote
