G-spotter Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Trip: Anderson River Range - Steinbok & Springbok Arete Date: 7/24/2010 Trip Report: So Shaun, Dave and I went to do Springbok Arete on Saturday. Got to the base and we only had two helmets, two chalkbags and motivation enough for two of the three climbers. Dave and Shaun got on Springboks and I decided to wander up Steinbok. Coles Notes version: Dave and Shaun climbed to the top of p10, using the Sprung Cocks Erect direct start, slowed down in the hot sun and ended up bailing. I climbed Steinbok, easy scramble from the col with Ibex. A bunch of pics: Gear Notes: Doubles to 3" plus 3.5 and 4 for Springboks via Sprung Cock Erect. Ice axe and approach shoes for Steinbok Approach Notes: Anderson River Main North is 2wd to the Branch 610 fork. DO NOT take the roads on the west side of the creek. Alder hell. Take the aldered in but more passable roads on the EAST side of the creek, below Gemse, until right across from the old growth below Springboks. Descend through the clearcut, cross the creek and bushwack straight uphill across the west-side roads to the old growth. Follow flagged trail thru the old growth (north side of the tongue of big trees) and up to the climb Quote
