KaskadskyjKozak Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Anyone been up Forbidden/Torment/Eldorado/Sahale and can comment on how much snow is on the tops of those peaks? Would Forbidden or Torment be mostly bare, half and half, or snice/verglas encrusted right now? This weather is making it hard to predict - would love some beta. Quote
goatboy Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Haven't been up there yet this year. I do know that descending the East Ledges on Forbidden when it's snowy/wet is a bleak affair. If you go up Forbidden, I'd consider going back down the W Ridge and Couloir. Quote
JasonG Posted June 15, 2010 Posted June 15, 2010 Forbidden east ledges descent is still VERY snowy . . saw it pretty plainly from Big Kangaroo on Sunday. I'd bet there are still snowy/wet/icy bits on the various ridges. Quote
Don_Chicho Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 My buddy and I were up in Boston Basin to try the WR of Forbidden last Saturday, 6/12 when the weather was hot and we were going to die in avalanches. We bailed because the West Ridge and East Ridge were all still caked in snow. In the morning the snow had a 3-ish inch crust over many feet of unconsolidated spring snow. It was cool in the morning because we could actually walk on the crust sometimes like a sidewalk, but otherwise was perfect step kicking. When the sun hit the snow, it only took an 1-2 hours before it was mush, posthole hell. Quote
TRbetaFlash Posted June 16, 2010 Posted June 16, 2010 Looks like I need to bring my splitboard and *shred the gnar* d00d! Quote
