GoCougs Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 So Im looking at the Black Diamond Transfer 7 Shovel. What does everyone think of this shovel? Good or Bad? Quote
Vickster Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 I use to own a transfer 3 and it was solid, ended up being too small. Switched to a Deploy 7 because I liked the fact it would collapse small, had few points of failure, and was slightly lighter than the Transfer 7. Quote
Bronco Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Looks good to me. I've used lexan, carbon fiber, snow claws and a few variations of aluminum. If I need to move much snow, like for a tent platform or snow cave, the larger aluminum blades with "D" handles work the best. Quote
mccallboater Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 (edited) My favorite shovel is still a Chouinard shovel head that fits its own handle or on to my axe. It has the perfect curve for building caves, works as a stove base, doesn't weigh much, carries easily on my pack. It doesn't move a tremendous amount of snow though. So if the reason for carrying a shovel is primarily to dig someone out of an avalanche, then I take my burly Voile extendable shovel. Nice image here from the Wenachee Outdoors website. My Voile is like the top one. My Chouinard is like the next. I too like D-shaped handles. YocumRidge Posted April 5, 2010 Posted April 5, 2010 I am very happy with my Grivel Steel Blade that I got in France in 2008 for only € 21. Axe-compatible, and only 14 oz. Quote
