i wear a size 12 mountain boot and use grivel g12s. i bought extender bars for the crampons because i want my frontpoints to stick out a bit further than they currently do but the bars dont seem to do anything. am i spacing out on something?

if you have the automatic crampons you can move the front bail to the next notch backwards, otherwise you are out of luck

 

all the extender bars do is allow for a larger boot to fit

G12 on a size 12 boot. Petzl safety strap and front bail.

Front hole is less front point...back is more. G12 with Petzl front bail as pictured above.

Cleaner profile (less to snag on mixed than the Grivel "circle" bail and p.o.s. toe strap both of which I find annoying) and more importantly a better crampon to boot fit.

FWIW the G12 with it's exceptionally long (in comparison to others available) first two sets of points make a good winter mixed and ice crampon for the typical soft ice in the Cascades imo.

Had the same problem with G14's, they just dont stick out far enough and once you start grinding gets even worse...lots of stubbed toes
