Trip Report:

Took a couple of days off work to take advantage of the splendid weather. Had no summit plans, but wanted to try for some nice images of Illumination Rock in particular. Wound up wandering all over the south side. Posted everything here:

 

Two Days on Hood

 

I think this was the best image of the lot. It was of course super fun and super tiring for an old guy, even if my climbing buddy bailed and I skipped the summit.

Yes! AT Setups are SWEET! Good for going up in the soft snow too! WAY better for going down than your butt!

 

Yes! Alpine starts = good idea for Hood.

 

I can't believe how much snow there is compared to last year! Awesome!

The camera is a Nikon D300s. I carried a Nikkor 50mm, an 18-200 zoom (most shots were using this one), and I rented a 14mm Nikkor (from Pro Photo Supply) as well. The images up on the Hogback with the bits of flare in them were taken with the 14mm, a true pro lens (costing about $1500 to buy).
