Gaston Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Trip: Mt Shuksan - N Face and Summit Pyramid, Climb and Ski Date: 12/8/2009 Trip Report: On Tuesday I climbed the north face of Mt. Shuksan. Once on the north shoulder I skied around the top of the Crystal glacier to the Sulphide. In the shelter of the south gully it was actually quite warm. I waved to an NPS helicopter that passed right over the summit as I was starting to boot up the gully. The gully was good skiing. Unfortunately, most of the rest of the descent was not. I made it all the way back to White Salmon Creek without putting skins on--a high traverse around the east face of the summit pyramid puts you just a quick side step away from the Crystal-Hanging col. The north face was super firm--the north winds over the weekend had scoured and exposed that last hard rain crust. Nasty. I suppose you could call it good climbing conditions, though. I took some pictures, and I'll post them if I can get around to it. Kind of busy just now. Quote
