After two years of living in New York City, I've managed to secure a summer internship in Seattle! WOOO! North Cascades, here I come!

But I have some questions about living in the Rainy City. My job is going to be right downtown, at 2nd Ave. and Cherry street. Further, I may or may not have a car this summer, so I want to live somewhere bikeable or busable from both work and the climbing gyms. Advice? What are the good neighborhoods? I'm young enough that being able to walk to bars and restaurants is going to be key.

Other advice about living in Seattle generally? I lived in Portland for two years, so I'm familiar with the Northwest in general, but not Seattle.

Wallingford is the best area in my opinion. Ballard, then lower Queen Anne after that. They are all close enough to downtown for the bike thing, I have been enjoying the busses too . Enjoy!

West Seattle is the center of the universe. Fremont lost its soul when it sold out to corporate interests.

Wallingford does have an excellent place to buy beer.

If you bike to work from Queene Anne you the ride is too short, might as well just take the bus.

coming from New York....well its all going to be hick town for you, no matter what neighborhood.

You'd be surprised how provincial New York is. I'm incredibly excited to live somewhere where people don't think the world ends across the Hudson River.

That's a good point, but I'm only gonna be out there for a few months. My options are basically to buy a clunker and ditch it at the end of the summer, or bum rides off of people I meet, and use Zipcar or rentals for when I can't do that.
