Macson Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Kind of like those Group Health commercials where the doctor/consultant is trying to explain how it really works and the writers are just coming up with more and more fantastic shit. Quote

nels0891 Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 dexamethasone is also NOT used to treat HAPE...it is used for HACE. and they'd have been dead mere minutes after their coughs became productive. Just to clear the record, dexamethasone IS used to tread HAPE and HACE. Quote
Julian Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 From the Vertical Limit goofs page on IMDB: Factual errors: Everything shown about belaying and climbing techniques, high altitude mountaineering, helicopter usage, high altitude medicine (exception: dex), high altitude mountaineering clothes and the shape of K2 is wrong. There are many other good ones on that page, but that one pretty much summarizes this movie in one sentence. Quote
Macson Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 dexamethasone is also NOT used to treat HAPE It's only used to treat HAPE Thanks Sybil. Anyway, the answer is...it's used for both, with varying degrees of success. HAPE http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17015867 HACE http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/abstract/321/25/1707 Quote
catbirdseat Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 (edited) Has anyone seen the new North Face movie? I saw an advance screening at REI. It looked very authentic to me. I didn't notice anything that was implausible, except for perhaps a part where two guys are hanging from one piton, and the pin is starting to pull. The guy at the belay is pounding it back in with a hammer and yelling, "the piton is pulling out!". Then one of the guys below sees they are f---ed, pulls out a knife and cuts the rope. Apparently, this movie was filmed in 2008 in German. It is only now available with English subtitles. Review Edited February 2, 2010 by catbirdseat Quote
