mtn.climber Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Was anyone out this past weekend that can provide road/trail conditions for the Easton glacier on Mt. Baker, or the North ridge/South side access to Mt. Adams? Quote
TwoFortyJeff Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I'm curious about the south side of Adams as well. As of right now, I am expecting about 5 miles of snow walking along the road to Cold Springs campground for memorial day. Quote
mtn.climber Posted May 20, 2009 Author Posted May 20, 2009 that's about what I've heard. Also about 5 miles or so going into Easton on Mt. Baker. If anyone has been up there, post what the snow conditions are like. Are snowshoes needed? Quote
Tennessee Posted May 20, 2009 Posted May 20, 2009 I hiked in to the Easton on monday May 11 and out on friday May 15. We had to park just before Forest road 13 breaks off 12 which is about 5 miles from the trailhead. On our way out, the road was still blocked by a football field size area of snow at the FS road 12 & 13 junction, but the rest of the road had melted out between there until about 3 miles from the trailhead. It shouldn't be long, if not already, that you could drive to within 2 or 3 miles from the trailhead. We found snowshoes to be very helpful. It's also a much shorter approach from the trailhead to the glacier since you can hike straight up the river valley leading to the snout of the Easton while the river is still snow covered. With the last storm we got today and yesterday, I imagine more snow has fallen up high, above 4000 feet or so. We received almost 2 feet of new snow at 6000 foot camp, between may 11 and 15. Quote
