So... If anyone knows anything about an orange / red rope abandoned on the last rap down the west face I'd sure appreciate a pm or call or talk to Opdycke about it if you'd rather. Not really interested in who, but the details. Suffice to say this falls under the common sense category of 'just don't'.

Does it matter?

isn't that face below the trail closed to climbing? there's an ancient sign bolted into a tree that says no climbing, but maybe it just means the tree :)

Yeah, it's closed and the rope is unfortunately all-to-visible from the boat launch so at this point it's just a matter of finding out what the deal was and working to insure it doesn't happen again.

Ut oh......the birds are not going to mate this year because of an abandoned rope. Or would it be because of the thousands of tourists?

beats me - i doubt its bird, since it's a permanent closure - is it just a fear that tourists will kill climbers?

Baby jesus is crucified on a miniature cross again every time someone breaks the closure. If anyone knows the circumstances pm me or Bill, or chat with Opdycke about it - some one is missing a rope...

not being aggressive or bitchy joe, just curious since i don't know and you might - how long has the west side been closed and what was the purpose behind the closure? i'm not all that dissapointed by it as the stuff just off the ground is kinda crappy looking, but it would be nice on sunny evenings in winter...

Keep your Nellie in check - it's not a permanent closure by anything other than the poison oak I keep not getting to at the end of each season - it's part of the Peregrine closure and will be open when it's lifted in June - unless of course, people keep breaking the closure and then nothing I can say will make it anything but July 15th...

do you know the sign i'm talking about joe? down on the talus field, near the base of the west face - cruelly bolted to a big tree - it's old as hell and would seem to read like you can never climb below the trail
