AlpineMonkey Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I was thinking about trying to climb McClellan Peak (near Prusik Peak) this weekend if the weather is good. I have tried to climb it twice in winter now, both times coming up from the Snowlake Trail. Its a long way...What are thoughts to approaching this peak. Would going up past Colchuck Lake be just as long and time consuming? There is a beautiful route that shoots up the E. Face. The only place that I have ever found any refference to it is in the WA Ice book. It mentions something about a rummor of a route on it or something. I don't understand why I haven't ever heard of anyone doing it. Below is a picture of the route. Quote
kevino Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 (edited) What if you went up those old Mtn home roads near wedge mtn (if those roads exist and drop in from that side? I remeber talking to a guy at rope-up and he said that was his preferred way. Edited February 12, 2009 by kevino Quote
Kyle_Flick Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Craig, Good choice for a climb. I remember spotting that couloir a couple winters' ago from the top of Wedge. Probably easier and more direct to just go up Snow Crick trail for your approach. I would not recommend the alternate ways, Colchuck or Wedge, because they involve interminable road walking. Are you looking to do it as a two dayer? Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Thinking about going up Saturday, climbing Sunday, hike around look at stuff and mess around, then hike out Monday. I just want to spend some time in the mountains. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 That looks like good skiing except the little ice step at the bottom. Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 People think climbing is crazy... I watched two skiiers come down the slot couloir the other day and thats just crazy. Thats only a moderate ski too right? Quote
kevino Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Craig, Be sure to check out the north face of mcclellan. I remember seeing what could be some intresting lines forming when I was up there in november. Its a possibility at least. Perhaps I'll run into you this weekend. Quote
Stefan Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I think I remember somebody calculating McClellan in the winter: via Bridge Creek/Colchuck lake = 11 miles but more worth it on skis than all other options via Snow Lake = 9.5 miles via Ingalls Creek = 7.5 miles Quote
