rbwen Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 We are heading to Red Rocks next weekend and the weather looks crappy right now. Does anyone have a contact/email for a Vegas climber who can give us the inside scoop on the conditions? We want to know whether or not to push our trip back... Please PM or email birksray@gmail.com Thanks! Ray Quote
Sherri Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Hey Ray, PM "Vegastradguy" on rc.com. He's usually out and about a fair bit there and would know conditions. A post on mountainproject.com might also produce some useful beta. Best wishes on a good(aka- warm, dry, sunny) trip! Quote
rbwen Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Thanks Sherri! I emailed vegastradguy (and read some of his great blogs). I appreciate your help. Quote
genepires Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 weather changes quick there. Could very well be good by the time you get there. It also could be bad in the canyons but sunny and good in the pullout areas. Most climbs in the canyons will be cold this time of year. (as you may already know) have fun! Quote
Sherri Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 You're welcome, Ray. And Gene's right. Things change SO quickly there. Often, you just have to wait to see how it looks on the day you want to climb, then decide where/if you want to go. Keep in mind, too, that the forecasts are usually referring to weather in the Valley, not in RR itself. You can be standing in brilliant sunshine on the Strip or even in Summerlin, looking at menacing storm clouds and snow enshrouding the canyons. They have their own weather sometimes. Pay attention to the wind. A good northerly is often blowing out a storm front and good weather tends to be behind it. Or so I'm told. Quote
