Need something that's good for Utah ice and winter climbs up to 14,000 or Cordillera Blanca. I'm thinking the Scarpa Omegas (light flexible plastic double) look about right. genepires Posted November 2, 2008 Share Posted November 2, 2008 when they first came out, I thought the arches were too high and my flattish feet got blisters under the arch after some 8 odd miles. I sold them right away. Maybe it was a fluke. Maybe they changed the design. Maybe you have high arches. This was something I couldn't determine in the store. Chad_A Posted November 2, 2008 Share Posted November 2, 2008 I've used the previous version, the Alpha, with the Omega liner in them. Basically the same boot. I used my own custom orthotics in them, so I never had issues- they were pretty warm and when I was in Peru, it was really common to see them used. nkane Posted November 2, 2008 Share Posted November 2, 2008 The arches are high, but they're also sized weird. I normally wear a 9.5ish boot, but got these in an 8.5. That said, I really like them. Considering that they're like half the weight of many plastics, they're very warm and quite sensitive for climbing. They're not even that bad for trail hiking - I wore them for the whole 6 mile approach to the Brothers and my feet were fine. I highly recommend them, if they fit your feet. All I own are 2 pair of thees sized tight for vert ice, big for walking Better than leather, light an precise over all other plastics. I would not use it other than mild mountain cold, of out for the day on ice, Then I would get a better insulated boot. But i love the Omegas and the Alphas. mkporwit Posted November 3, 2008 Share Posted November 3, 2008 I have the Alphas, the precursor to the Omega. These boots rock. Never had a blister in them, even on long approaches.
