hafilax Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 My helmets are getting older now and are quite heavy. I've stopped wearing my ski/snowboard helmet altogether because of neck strain. I don't really want to collect more and would like one helmet that can do skiing/snowboarding, summer rock/alpine as well as mountaineering. Do the foam mountaineering helmets provide adequate rear and side impact protection for skiing? Are there any helmets with effective variable venting that can be used in both hot and cold weather with the addition of thin toques or removable ear caps? Quote
rob Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) Camp makes a helmet rated for skiing and climbing I think you can buy removable vent plugs and ear flaps for it, too Edited October 28, 2008 by rob Quote
ColinB Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Seems to make more sense for ski mountaineering rather than us cheapass bastards that don't want to buy two helmets. Has anyone here actually used it? Is it too hot for rock climbing in? Quote
hafilax Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Thanks Rob. I just realized that working with goggles will be a major issue. I'll have to remember to take mine and try them with some mountaineering helmets and see if any will work. Apparently the Grivel Salamander is designed to work with goggles. I wonder the if the headlamp clips can serve a dual purpose or if the goggles will fit underneath. Quote
Hugh Conway Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 given they are designed for different types of impact protection seems a rather silly compromise. Quote
