Dannible Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I'm hanging out in Portland and have never been to Beacon. Anyone want to head out there for a few hours tommorrow afternoon? I'm thinking moderates. Quote
JosephH Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Would love to, but I'm leaving for LA in the morning - hopefully someone here can oblige you... Quote
ivan Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 that's the one day this week i can't go - will be out there friday though - you could alwasy try your hand soloing the se corner if you can't find anyone? Â you might try pm'ing denalidave - he lives out there... Quote
denalidave Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I was out today and might be able to get out Thur for just a few hours mid day. Just about as windy as I've ever seen it out there today, good times. A helmet sized rock went whizzing right behind Kenny when I was belaying him up Jill's. He did not see it but it was only about 4 ft behind him. Â Â Quote
JosephH Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Hmmm, there's still loose stuff coming down. I'm guessing it's all coming from one as yet unidentified spot up on that last, high wall. Bummer we can't seem to identify the source. Quote
Mtguide Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Rockfall is often worse on days of high wind at Beacon. We've decided several times to go elsewhere because of heavy wind. Take care. Quote
JosephH Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 I don't know, I climb throughout the winter right up until the Feb 1st closure. Most of those days are screaming east winds that blow you off your stance up on the corner ridge. Not sure I've noticed any more rockfall. This year, though, we've had fairly steady rockfall from what I'm guessing is more or less the same spot up there. Quote
Dannible Posted October 24, 2008 Author Posted October 24, 2008 Nope. Dave tried to get time to head out there yesterday but wasn't able to in the end. I was gonna ask if I could join you today, but I made plans to head into the Olympics tommorrow so I'm leaving Portland soon. I'll be back at the beginning of November and should be more flexible. Hopefully the weather will hold out for a while longer. Quote
ivan Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 cool - next time then - beacon's a fantastic experience, especially when you take it all the way to the top Quote
