Mike_Gauthier Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Here is a link to the first installment of a 5 part series about a climbing accident on the Emmons in 1992. http://www.rockymountainnews.com/special-reports/crevasse-tragedy-mount-rainier/ Quote
sobo Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Bookmarked. Thanks, Gator! BTW, we haven't seen you around these parts in months. We missed ya! Quote
mattp Posted October 21, 2008 Posted October 21, 2008 Wow, Mike. In 1980 I climbed a wall in Yosemite with a guy named Mike Price. I met him on the shuttle bus in Yosemite and we then climbed The Prow. We had a great time and I've cherished the memory ever since, thinking: that was one of my best climbing partners ever and we only ever did one climb together. I think it was the climber described in your link. If my partner Mike was killed in a crevasse fall I am truly saddened 17 years later. I have looked forward to meeting him once again in the Bugs or the Gunks for 28 years. Quote
cowboysrus Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Just lurking and saw this. Mike was actually my father's cousin and more or less a legacy within my family. I'm too young to have ever met him but was so very excited to see this story written. I've always heard about what a wonderful man he was. Great story. Quote
sobo Posted October 23, 2008 Posted October 23, 2008 Welcome to the board, CBrU, and my belated condolences to you and your father's family. Quote
rmncwrtr Posted October 24, 2008 Posted October 24, 2008 Thanks for the link. I just read all five parts. I'm guessing I look a lot like the people Jim described in the audience of his talk right now. Quote
mzchristy Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Hey Mike, What an incredible account of human endurance and skill. My heart broke while reading this. Thank you so much for sharing this. Quote
