Braydon Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 I'm thinking about taking my older brother up Outer Space this weekend. Anyone want to come? Quote
Sherri Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 It's great that you two are raring to get back out after the GNS epic last weekend. Way to get back on the horse! Take your headlamps! and have a fun safe time Quote
Braydon Posted September 18, 2008 Author Posted September 18, 2008 Yeah...i never thought a gns epic was possible...i guess going after school and not bringing headlamps is asking for it. were taking headlamps and planning on being at the base of the climb at around 9:30. Quote
Sherri Posted September 18, 2008 Posted September 18, 2008 We all learn our lessons somewhere, hun. No shame in it. That's where experience comes from, after all. Have a blast on OS and git 'er done! Quote
Braydon Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) huh...anyone have any suggestions for routes similar in length to outer space, in darrington(without insane runouts) or leavenworth that you can do with a single set of cams/stoppers and a single rope? under 5.10? TrogdortheBurninator Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 silent running in darrington. fault - catapult - canary on castle rock in LW Orbit in LW (prob better with single set than outerspace, although you still have to build belays, which takes gear.) Quote
Braydon Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 can you do silent running with a single rope? is any downclimbing involved? Quote
tradhead Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 Blueberry Route on Exfoliation Dome. Not sure about road access this year, though. Quote
Braydon Posted September 19, 2008 Author Posted September 19, 2008 (edited) Anyone know about the road access? How's the descent? Can you do it with one rope without exposed downclimbing? Do you rappell westward ho? Edited September 19, 2008 by Braydon Quote
Argus Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 The road should be fine. We were up at 3 O'clock last weekend and the road to where it splits with Blueberry Hill road was fine. There are a couple places you'll have to slow down in a low clearance car, but not too bad. From what I recall, you need two ropes to come down Westward Ho. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted September 19, 2008 Posted September 19, 2008 rappelling (standard descent) silent running takes two ropes. I think there is a mystery down climb also, but I have no idea where it goes. Quote
Braydon Posted September 20, 2008 Author Posted September 20, 2008 Huh...do you need a 3.5/4 camalot for r&d? Quote
miladugga Posted September 20, 2008 Posted September 20, 2008 Assuming you mean R and D at Icicle Buttress, we did it a few days ago and didn't need anything bigger than a #3 camalot. Rack was a set of BD stoppers, couple of aliens, and a double set of cams .5 to 3, which ended up being too much gear. Wasn't sure if we belayed at exactly the right places, needed plenty of slings for rope drag, especially on the first two pitches. Super fun route, my first time on it. Cool short crack at the top. I'm not a very strong trad leader, we also did Givlers nearby and Midway Direct in Tumwater Canyon, highly recommend both. Quote
