jesselillis Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 Anyone climbed Mt.Hood in November (Thanksgiving)? I'm thinking of going up with a relatively inexperienced partner. I've only been up in July. I would be comfortable going up with him in those conditions, but I'd anticipate November being a bit less ideal? Thoughts/suggestions/alternatives appreciated. Quote
mike1 Posted September 7, 2008 Posted September 7, 2008 It depends... watch the weather over the next few months to gage conditions. Fall season mountaineering can be a bit more hazardous due to crevasses and/or bergshrunds being covered with week snow bridges. Take precautions and do some more training with your partner. Have fun! Quote
Joe_Poulton Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 Definitely pay attention to the snowpack as it builds. Don't go up if a coastal front is coming...unless you're positive you can get back to the start in zero visibility. Quote
ivan Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 november's not a great season for newbs, but the n side in particuliar is a siren for those w/ just enough experience to get their balls slammed in the drawer then! look for very cold/clear weather following a few cycles of wet/warm weather and you can find extremely cool icy conditions...
