rob Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 US Troops repel attack 200 insurgents -- that must have been quite a battle. We must have some tough guys over there. Quote
lI1|1! Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 The fighting left nine U.S. soldiers dead and 15 wounded... An Afghan official estimated that 100 militants died or were wounded in the fighting. looks like a similar kill ratio to the one the US experienced in Vietnam, were commanders attempted to win by a war of attrition, but ultimately lost becase the Vietnamese were willing to endure much higher casualty rates. the insurgent commanders may view this as a victory. i still think those marines are tough and fought well, and share their families grief, i'm just trying to view the news realistically. rob Posted July 14, 2008 Author Posted July 14, 2008 I don't see this the same way at all. This wasn't an offensive battle launched by commanders trying to win by a war of attrition. This was 200 insurgents launching a surprise attack against a forward base, and being repelled. Quote
RuMR Posted July 14, 2008 Posted July 14, 2008 they should just bolt those fokkers and be done with it already... Quote
