wayne Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Trip: Black Peak-Ski descent - South Ridge Date: 5/26/2008 Trip Report: During the Ski-in, David Parker and I had revenge on a route that shut us down a few years ago. Making it even sweeter, we were able to ski off of it from just below its summit. It was great to hook up with him again! Enjoying the 5th annual Ski-in Party. Attending were The Keg,David, me, Robin,Eva, Brian, Fern, Julia, Kellie,Kurt, Ryan, and Monica After yet another amazing group meal , we took off sunday in a packed car with Kellie, Kurt, Robin, David, and Myself. Black peak had its avalanche issues though there were slopes that not all of us wanted to cross. These slides went all the way to the ground, just like the ones in Whistler.THey may have gone off during the last hot weekend. Racing a storm cloud David and I took off for the summit making it up in 5 hours. The weather ended up not being an issue though. It was worse to the East of all places. It rained every night in Mazama. It was just fine in the mountains Saturday and Sunday. The view was all they said it would be. The ski down was deep up high but the lower we got the more firm it was . We had a great run. Amazing how fast you can get down on skis. Before we knew it Robin was nursing us back with beer at the car. Stoked for the coming season! Wayne Quote
builder206 Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Sweet. Nice to see this TR. I am sure everything about Black Peak and its approach is better covered with snow than it is in August. Quote
Cobra_Commander Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 What a great ski, and the views over the ridge at Goode are incredible. I found the first turn or two off the top to be a bit gripping, as I felt I was sliding towards the void... Quote
bremerton_john Posted May 27, 2008 Posted May 27, 2008 Looks like a great time Wayne and David. We were up on Snowfield and Colonial wondering if anyone else was enjoying the sunshine in the North Cascades this weekend. Quote
powdrx Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Great job ignoring the weather forecasts!! Anyone check out the Silver Star Creek start to Silver Star?? Is there still snow from the road?? I'd like to get that ski in soon!! Thanks for any info!! Quote
snoboy Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 Nope, no snow at the road, probably snow around 4600' or so... judging from some snow still on Cutthroat road at the highway. Quote
powdrx Posted May 28, 2008 Posted May 28, 2008 WOW it goes fast!! I got a little beta on TAY.com as well. They said snow becomes continuous about 4200. Still worth a shot!! Thanks a bunch!! Quote
