jaffers1228 Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Hi everyone...I'm relatively new to the sport (been to the top of Kilimanjaro and I've been rock climbing for a while now), but this is the first true mountaineering trip I'm going to do. I'm going out to Oregon in the middle of July. What kinds of layers should I pack? I've had some recommendations from other people, and this is what I'm thinking: -Synthetic T-Shirt or Long-Sleeved Shirt -Mountain Hardwear Vest -Fleece -Windbreaker Do you guys think that's enough, or not enough or what? Thanks! Quote
RuMR Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 what are you climbing??? it kinda matters... Is this for real?? Quote
jaffers1228 Posted May 6, 2008 Author Posted May 6, 2008 The three sisters, Mount Jefferson, and maybe Hood. I'm thinking I might need some more clothing...yeah? Quote
billcoe Posted May 6, 2008 Posted May 6, 2008 Yeah, more. Most likely you won't need it, but if you do, you got to have it, as in I mean got to have it. I like to start with a long underwear top that fits snug so the wind doesn't get under it, and if it's cool out, long underwear bottoms as well. Shorts over polypro (and a gortex overlayer which can be carried) are an inexpensive classic if you don't want to pay $150 for a pair of Scholler pants. Bringing a backlava to cover your entire head isn't a bad idea, and the best sunglasses you own for sure with lots of suncream and lipbalm for everything thats exposed. Something warmer for your top as well. You can always (and most likely will be in July) carry it, it doesn't weight much. Since its July, bring a good helmet and wear it lower on the mt than you think you might need it too. Quote
