aussie69 Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 How do these come in handy in rescue situations? I just can't think of an application one would is it for??? Any ideas? Quote
genepires Posted March 30, 2008 Posted March 30, 2008 their website says it is good for confined space hauling. Like caving? also from their website, the applications don't mention rescue so much as normal swivel usage, such as big wall and industrial work. APPLICATIONS- • Mountain and Urban Rescue • Big Wall Climbing • Top Roping • Mining • Fire Department • Mountaineering and Caving • Arborist and other work-related • Tactical—Military & Law Enforcement • Theatrical Rigging • Telecomunications Quote
aussie69 Posted March 30, 2008 Author Posted March 30, 2008 Sorry bout that I should have been a little more clear... I can't see how you would incorporate a swivel into a system. especialy for top ropping. any body have any diagrams showing the use of a swwivel??? Quote
summerprophet Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 The most common use for a swivel is to avoid twisting the haul line when you need to roll the bag across the wall on traversing pitches. In rescue situations, it is very rarely used, although it could be handy for lowering into caves or chambers where the rescuer needs to rotate a lot. Obvoisly this would only work with a single line. sobo Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 At 44kN MBS, that thing is burly! I agree with SP, it would find limited usage in mountain rescue situations. Quote
