cheamclimber Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 How is it up the coq right now... would the southwest side of Yak make for a good snow climb this weekend? Quote
cheamclimber Posted January 4, 2008 Author Posted January 4, 2008 Is the snow really loose and avalanche prone? Quote
G-spotter Posted January 4, 2008 Posted January 4, 2008 would the southwest side of Yak make for a good snow climb Don't forget to make out your will before you go. Someone else might be able to use your gear once it is recovered in July. Quote
steller Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I have a photo File at work named "Darwin awards candidates" for people I see on Yak south in winter. Chris. Quote
cheamclimber Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 lol, I saw a huge slide come off the slabs in winter. Now that I remember that theres NO WAY I would go there in winter. Makes more sense just to go up the needle across the highway Quote
steller Posted January 27, 2008 Posted January 27, 2008 I walked west today from the Zopkios rest stop and contoured around Zop ridge into a west facing bowl that had some cool lookin alpine climbing lines. and (what I went for) some good skiing.. bit of bushwackin but worth it! Groovy Chris. Quote
cheamclimber Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 I went up the fraser canyon to climb some ice, just past hells gate there was a coll loking climb but it had a bug hole in it and you would probably die or something if you attempted it, I ice bouldered around Lake of the Woods and then soloed some ice at the juction of hwy 9 anf hwy 7 in Agassiz... fun stuff there Quote

cheamclimber Posted January 27, 2008 Author Posted January 27, 2008 I wonder if that little ice formation is formed every year because I've never seen it before, I want to go back and climb the whole thing but if got to be pretty steep at the top and about 30ft high so I downclimbed, It was fun though. steller Posted January 30, 2008 Posted January 30, 2008 ski tour in the Coq today..Nak peak area. standing on my skis the snow was up to my waste. tuff slug up but well worth it. some snowpack issues.. three or four settlements (whumpfs) on the up track. indicates instability. test results producing easy shears on south aspect in new snow. on east aspect failures on facets down 55cm. there is buried surface hoar down 75ish that i have been tracking since it was buried on jan. 26 it has not been reactive to any tests yet. but one must know its out there, I am sure it will start reacting once the snowpack starts to settle and consolidate. ski with caution this weekend.
