Wrong. Daylength now begins to increase only between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn. At our latitude the later sunset is balanced or counteracted by a later sunrise until January 5; on that date, sunrise begins to march backwards on the clock. Only then do the days at this latitude start to become longer.

 

This is caused by the so-called "Equation of Time," a term that describes several daylength phenomena created by the fact that Earth's orbit around the sun is an ellipse. Because all orbits are elliptical, orbiting bodies' velocity around their central body vary according to their position on their trajectory. Combined with the fact that the ecliptic is inclined, the Equation of Time means that sunrise and sunset do not advance and recede from local noon at the same rate.
