chucK Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Even the Marines are looking to get out now! Marines looking to shift to Afghanistan Quote
chucK Posted October 11, 2007 Author Posted October 11, 2007 Oh Peter, When will you learn that "Islam" does not equal "Iraq". In fact, before we invaded it had a secular government! Back to the books for you! Quote
Couloir Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 I bet that 60 Minutes story will have more face-shots of Pelley than anything else. It's all about the beautiful celebrity reporter and his looks of astonishment and horror. Quote
builder206 Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Given the Marines' piss & vinegar reputation for combat, things must be pretty bad when even they run out of fight. Quote
Seahawks Posted October 11, 2007 Posted October 11, 2007 Doesn't sound like a defection. But hell it sell newspapers  Senior officials at the Pentagon are calling reports about a proposed shifting of 25,000 Marines from Iraq to Afghanistan next spring very preliminary thinking and not policy. Some defense officials have argued it would allow the services to operate more efficiently by focusing their manpower and energy. If Marines shift to Afghanistan, then the Army could focus on troop rotations in and out of Iraq Quote
Couloir Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 The Marines basic mission is rapid deployment. Not sustained warfare...what they've been doing in Iraq. They aren't wanting to leave Iraq to go home, but to relieve fellow soldiers in Afghanistan. There is big difference. Â You haven't been hearing it on the nightly news lately, but the extreme violence that has plagued Iraq has been decreasing. Perhaps the Marines feel they can be better utilized somewhere else. It's sustained warfare as well... at least skirmish after skirmish, cat and mouse games, etc. Quote
Couloir Posted October 12, 2007 Posted October 12, 2007 It's different in that Afghanistan needs a renewed offense. The Marines know that. They realize they can be utilzed better. I agree. Quote
