DirtyHarry Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Looks really snow free for 14,000 feet in june. Quote
Alpaholic Posted June 22, 2007 Posted June 22, 2007 Nice Work! Yeah, Sierra snowpack @ 25% of normal this year = no crampons/axe needed for MR descent (or pretty much anything else). Sweet (not so sweet). Quote
Khartoum Wood Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 (edited) I'm looking to climb Whitney where is the closest place to fly into nice photos. Edited November 19, 2011 by Khartoum Wood Quote
Seamstress Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I flew into Reno. Easy and beautiful drive going past Tahoe and down the East Side. There are a couple of tiny airports you can fly into, but they were pricey last I checked. Quote
iluka Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Given that Whitney is on the southern end of the Sierra, another option is to fly into Riverside (LA/Ontario) and drive up from there. Open, fast driving to Lone Pine. That being said, the drive down from Reno is really beautiful and takes you past plenty of other great areas to climb... as well as the Whoa Nellie Deli. Quote
Khartoum Wood Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Thank you for this info have a good time out there. Quote
pcg Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I'm driving down in May to do this with friends and we decided Vegas would be closest for me to meet them. Lots of cheap flights and it also allows a couple days at Red Rocks. I've done the drive across Death Valley and the road is good with very little traffic. Quote
