Trip: Mt. Whitney - East Buttress

Date: 6/20/2007

Trip Report:

Decided to do this route solo on my way home from work. Left the Portal 5:15 am. Back at Portal a little before 3pm. Faster than I thought, funner than I thought.

Given that Whitney is on the southern end of the Sierra, another option is to fly into Riverside (LA/Ontario) and drive up from there. Open, fast driving to Lone Pine. That being said, the drive down from Reno is really beautiful and takes you past plenty of other great areas to climb... as well as the Whoa Nellie Deli.

I'm driving down in May to do this with friends and we decided Vegas would be closest for me to meet them. Lots of cheap flights and it also allows a couple days at Red Rocks. I've done the drive across Death Valley and the road is good with very little traffic.
