Dan_Petersen Posted July 23, 2001 Share Posted July 23, 2001 Here's a mundane topic if ever there was one. Any good methods to get rid of mildew on the waterproof bottom of a bivy sack? The Goretex top is fine, but the bottom is spotted black. A regular wash got the smell, but the black spots remain behind. Any ideas? slaphappy Posted July 23, 2001 Share Posted July 23, 2001 Aquaseal makes a product called "Mirazyme", a microbial odor eliminator. It is made for the elimination of funk in sports/outdoor gear. (and is biodegradable, for those who care) I don't know for fact it will eliminate the stains, but it does work relatively well on the odor. You should have no problem eliminating any stains with Nikwax's Tech Wash, a Gore-Tex safe stripper. The shit takes out most anything. (work some in before the wash full strength) Tech Wash is available at most outdoor shops locally, but the Mirazyme I have not noticed anywhere. Good Luck! jtflyfisher Posted August 1, 2001 Share Posted August 1, 2001 Ok, down here in an old thread I'm gonna tell the truth (I was proud in the beginning...that changed) I ran the REI repair counter at the old and new stores for 5 yrs. The mildew recipe we used goes like this: One gallon hot water One cup lysol Drench the item, use a sponge if nec. DO NOT RINSE but allow to dry One gallon hot water One cup lemon juice Drench, sponge Do not rinse, allow to dry THEN fully rinse the item.
