Jonn-E Posted June 1, 2001 Share Posted June 1, 2001 Just thought I'd spread the word on this one. This winter I bought a pair of Mountain Hardware Chugach Pants rather than a pair of fleece pants. They have Polarguard 3D as the insulation. It was perhaps the smartest purchase I have ever made. They are lighter, warmer, cheaper and pack smaller than fleece pants, and stay very warm when wet. Dru Posted June 4, 2001 Share Posted June 4, 2001 Instead of the fleece + goretex combination for alpine pants I recommend Powershield fabric, like in the ArcTeryx Gamma SV bibs. Illimani94 Posted June 5, 2001 Share Posted June 5, 2001 I bought a similar garment, Integral Designs' Denali pants, for a trip to Bolvia last summer. Also used them this winter during ice climbing season. Stuff small, warm, Pertex shell sheds snow and stops the breeze pretty well. Great concept, since when I need that much insulation I'm not moving - either in camp or at belay. I sized mine to fit over my typical climbing clothes.
