Geeyore Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Yeah, the news networks are switching from live to loops and back to something Fox is calling "new video". After watching this for the last hour it's pretty clear the talking heads and the people doing the captions don't know what's being broadcast.
GDouce Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I appreciate the transcription because I don't have access to these television channels.
Able 421 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 KATU.com goes back and forth. You might try there, it's free. Download the plugin when prompted to get a better feed.
Ice-Ninja Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Jim Whitaker's cnn interview is a bit annoying. Climbers today relie on rescue but in his day they relied on teamwork. Then he is asked if he has ever been rescued and he says "yes" on Denali. Â So anyone who is rescued today is substandard but not when he needed it. Â I wish someone would point out this cave.
chinamama Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 CNN is carrying the livefeed from KOIN (CBS) on its pipeline, go to http://www.cnn.com and click on watch now.
PaulO Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Plus cnn feed breaks up a lot as helicopter repositions. Nothing right now.
Ruedi Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I don't have the link but it is KOIN-KPTV so google it. Please be nice. There is plenty of room and banwidth here to have a few questions outside the lines. Â Looks like it might take some time however.
quicker_than_ewe Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Pretty up to date pics on this CNN site, http://www.cnn.com/  and this faux newshit site, http://www.foxnews.com/index.html  where is the nodder?
pulverschwein Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I appreciate the transcription because I don't have access to these television channels. That's what I thought. Â Lambone - CNN is showing shots from KOIN-KPTV, but I don't know link. Â Zeta male - you're a hypocritical prick.
TTT Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I am from SJC on Blog. I agree that it is good to keep track of technical notes this way. Thanks for updating with video info as I do not have cable. Best.
LHwildcats76 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 What is the upside down V shape made of? Snow? Ropes? The only shape I've heard mentioned was the 'Y' made by gear, which someone said means 'Yes, I'm here.' Is a snow cave suppose to grow in height in relation to the surrounding snow as snow falls on top of it? I don't know why it would do that. When you build a cave, you dig into snow already there, unless it's some sort of igloo design. Â I thought DISH network only receives, doesn't transmit. And any confirmation as to where the three were would have saved a week's worth of searching.
MauiHawk Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 The guy who went down the ridge is now digging. the " /\ " shape is visible in the snow just below the sar guy on cnn. I concur, was watching the guy digging from the apex of the /\ for five minutes and amazed that none of the talking heads mentioned it. You could even see the spindrift coming from his shovel. I wonder if you called into CNN if there's any chance they could clue the talking heads into that video.
gradyboy92 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Jim Whitaker's cnn interview is a bit annoying. Climbers today relie on rescue but in his day they relied on teamwork. Then he is asked if he has ever been rescued and he says "yes" on Denali. So anyone who is rescued today is substandard but not when he needed it.  I wish someone would point out this cave.  You just completely misquoted him. Before you post, think before you hit the enter key.
zl27 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Fox "reconfirmed" that the Y is made of snow, not rope.
Ice-Ninja Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 I am not going to get into flame wars. Â It wasn't said all at once. That was two parts of the same interview. Â Â
Able 421 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Anyone else notice the older footage showing a small group of rescuers to the right of the ridge below the Pearly Gates? Are they testing the snow over there before heading up?
zl27 Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 CNN just reported a communication on the radio "prepare to evacuate the summit at 1600 hours." No indication of what it means.
Lambone Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Have they made it to the cave yet. Seems like they should be inside by now...wuzz up?
Zeta Male Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 Pretty up to date pics on this CNN site, http://www.cnn.com/ Â where is the nodder? Â The current view appears to me to show, as viewed from the SE, about a dozen people on the summit preparing to scan/descend the NF.
PaulO Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 No more video on the net, how about on cable???
Hoping4Today Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 (edited) Capt. Chris Bernard - 304th AFRS - "From what it looks like to me, they have found the target area." Â SAR will have to evac summit at 4pm PST. Edited December 17, 2006 by Hoping4Today
Ice-Ninja Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 ok, they say that the rescuers are at the target.
Ruedi Posted December 17, 2006 Posted December 17, 2006 They just said they will leave the summit at 4 pm that's two hours from now. I can't understand why someone doesn't say anything about the guy probing the snow on the Y you can clearly see?? It looks like there is one guy probing on the ridge below the summit.
